Club Events Photograph Album (10)
We hope you enjoy viewing this page of our photograph album as much as we had making these memories. The album includes photographs taken over the past years and are separated by event. By selecting an event's photograph, you will be able to view a slide show presentation for the event.
Event Preparation: 10/06/23
In preparation for our guests who will be attending the Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation tomorrow, a team of five club members met at the field to set up for the event.
Jim Davis, Robert Yanacek, Skip Wescott, Allen Massey, and Peter Fynn cut the grass and set up the temporary shade and safety structures to ensure all would be ready.
This process took about two and a half hours, and left Jim and Peter with time to fly their planes.
We departed the field at about 2PM knowing that everything is ready for our guests, and in the best possible condition.
Pilot's Breakfast: 09/30/23
Dreary and windy weather prevented us from flying today, but Skip Wescott, Jim Watters, Virgil Kee, Robert Yanacek, Peter Fynn and Jim Davis still got together for breakfast at the Jolly Roger Restaurant where we made our final plans for the Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation next weekend.
All forecasts indicate that the winds will be dying down about mid-week and that flying conditions will be good next weekend, with the primary concern being the wet conditions at the field as a result of Tropical Storm Ophelia.
Our members will be meeting at the field on Friday to ensure the grass is cut, and to set up everything so that it is ready for our guests the following day.
Student and Club Meetings: 09/21/23
A busy day today for four club members who visited with forty-three students at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills to discuss pursuing radio control aviation as a hobby to acquire skills that could be used in the future within the developing drone industry.
Jim Davis, Peter Fynn, and Philip Garey each presented information within their respective areas of expertise, while Robert Yanacek worked behind the scene to photographically document the event.
Later that evening, eight members met for our club's monthly business meeting. Plans for setting up and conducting the Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation on October 7, 2023 were agreed upon, as well as deciding to hold a club field trip to the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach on October 14, 2023.
Club Fly: 09/16/23
Although the coastline of New England was being pummeled by Hurricane Lee, weather conditions at the field were so ideal, that five members agreed on short notice to fly today.
Stephen Yanacek conducted the first flight of the day with his RV-7 and thus, logged the first flight at the club's newly designated FAA-Recognized Identification Area (FRIA).
Other flights of the day included Peter Fynn with his Turbo Timber and Tiny-Toni racer, Grant Dick with his glow fuel powered Supermarine Spitfire, and Jim Shiels with his UMX Antanov AN-2.
Event Planning Breakfast: 09/09/23
Mike Alexander, Charlie Doss, Jim Shiels, Stephen Yanacek, Harold Blakney, Philip Garey, Jim Davis, Robert Yanacek, Peter Fynn, Skip Wescott, and Jim Watters met today at the Jolly Roger Restaurant to finalize plans for the upcoming Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation event.
With all of the planning work now completed our eleven members were then able to then enjoy breakfast, camaraderie, and the hospitality of the restaurant's staff.
Breakfast, Planning, and Maintenance: 09/02/23
Five club members met today for breakfast and to do planning for the upcoming Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation event at the Jolly Roger Restaurant. In addition, marketing materials for the event and the club were placed on display in the restaurant's lobby.
Following the meeting, Robert Yanacek and Charlie Doss headed to the flying field to mow and ensure the field was in excellent condition. Jim Davis and Peter Fynn headed home to charge some batteries for their aircraft with plans to meet Richard Boyd and Jim Watters to fly in the early afternoon.
